Ultimate Guide to Handshake Meme Templates and Creation

The handshake is a universal gesture, but in the digital age, it has become one of the most versatile meme formats. The shaking hands meme serves as the perfect visual shorthand for agreement, irony, and alliances, from the muscular clasp of 80s action stars to awkward office moments. Whether you are a seasoned creator or a newcomer, understanding the handshake meme template is key to mastering internet humor and social engagement. This article explores popular handshake meme formats and shows you how to create your own with HitPaw Edimakor.

What Is a Handshake Meme?

A handshake meme is a visual format that uses the image of two or more parties shaking hands to convey a specific message. It usually relates to an agreement between two unlikely entities or a shared sentiment between different groups. The core appeal of the hand shake meme lies in its ability to illustrate the intersection of two concepts. For instance, in many popular variations, the hands are labeled with different identities or ideas, and the point of contact (the handshake itself) represents a shared trait or a mutual decision.

These memes have evolved from simple stock photos into complex cultural touchstones. The shaking hands meme category now includes stills from famous movies, scenes from beloved television shows like The Office, and even hand drawn anime frames. The format’s flexibility lets you use it for serious political commentary, niche hobbyist jokes, or broad, relatable humor. Whether it is a high contrast black white handshake meme or a colorful animated GIF, the fundamental structure remains the same: two sides coming together to acknowledge a shared reality.

Popular Handshake Meme Templates

Finding the right handshake meme template is the first step in creating viral meme content. The following templates represent the most popular versions currently circulating across social media platforms.

1. The Epic Handshake (Predator)

This is arguably the most famous epic handshake meme in existence. Originating in the 1987 film Predator, it features Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Dillon (Carl Weathers) greeting each other with an intense, muscle bound mid-air arm wrestle. It is the gold standard for representing two parties agreeing on something powerful or intense. The muscle handshake meme is often used to show two different groups finding a singular, often humorous, commonality.

2. The Office Congratulations (Michael Scott and Ed Truck)

For those who prefer humor rooted in social failure, this funny handshake meme is perfect. It features Michael Scott from The Office shaking hands with his former boss, Ed Truck. The humor comes from Michael’s long, shaggy hair and his clearly confused expression, contrasted with Ed’s professional demeanor. It is frequently used to represent someone receiving praise for something they didn’t actually do or understand.

3. Naruto Handshake

Anime fans have their own version of the alliance meme. The Naruto Handshake template shows two characters from the popular series Naruto locking hands. This template often represents a “great alliance” between two entities that were previously at odds. It captures the drama and intensity of a hard won agreement, making it a favorite for more serious or high stakes meme topics.

4. Business Handshake (Black and White)

The black white handshake meme is a classic in the corporate satire world. These images often look like generic stock photos of businessmen in suits. Because they are colorless, they carry a sense of “cold professionalism” or irony. Creators often use this handshake meme template to mock corporate greed, soulless mergers, or the performative nature of business deals where no one actually benefits.

5. The Triple Handshake

When two parties aren’t enough, the Triple Handshake steps in. This is an edited version of the epic muscle shake that adds a third arm into the mix. It represents a three way agreement. For example, if “Coffee Lovers,” "Students,” and “Night Shift Workers” all agree that “3 AM is a productive hour,” this template is the perfect way to visualize that unlikely trio.

6. Awkward Award Handshake

Social anxiety is a recurring theme in internet humor, and the awkward handshake meme is its champion. This template usually shows a person on a stage receiving an award while the presenter reaches for a handshake that the recipient misses, or vice versa. It is the ultimate way to describe a situation where someone feels out of place or “messes up” a simple social cue.

7. The Manly Handshake

Like the Predator version, the Manly Handshake emphasizes strength and mutual respect between two individuals. However, this template often features more stylized or artistic depictions of arms locking. It signifies a “bro-agreement” or a pact based on shared strength and grit.

8. Mr. Krabs and Patrick Handshake

Cartoons provide some of the best material for a shake hand meme. The image of Mr. Krabs and Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants shaking hands is a favorite for representing bizarre or nonsensical deals. Because the characters are so different, one being a greedy crab and the other a dim witted starfish, the meme perfectly captures the essence of an “unlikely alliance.”

9. Grasping Hands (Agreement)

Sometimes simplicity is best. The Grasping Hands template is a straightforward depiction of two hands meeting in the middle. It lacks the muscles of the Predator meme or the humor of The Office, but it is highly effective for clear, direct communication. It literally defines a “deal” and works when the creator wants the focus entirely on the text rather than the background image.

Tips for Making a Funny Handshake Meme

Creating a funny handshake meme requires more than just a good template; you need to understand the nuances of digital humor. Here are some practical tips to help your content land:

• Contrast is Key: The best memes show two very different groups agreeing on something surprising. The bigger the contrast between the parties, the funnier the result will be for your audience.
• Keep Text Short: Don’t clutter the image with too much information. Use a few punchy words for each hand so readers can understand the joke instantly without squinting.
• Stay Relevant: Use current events, trending movies, or local news to make your meme feel fresh and shareable in the moment.
• Use High-Quality Assets: Avoid using blurry or low-resolution images. Using a tool like Edimakor helps your meme look professional and stay readable on any screen size.
• Experiment with Filters: Sometimes a black and white filter or a vintage grainy effect can add an extra layer of irony or drama to your joke, making it more memorable.
